Candle Burning Tips & Troubleshooting

Recommended Burn Time

The 1st time you burn your candle, you should allow for enough time to burn until you establish an even burning pool. An even burning pool is when the melted wax burns evenly all the way to the edge of the vessel.

  • This will vary with each vessel and can take 2-4 hours.
  • The amount of time for the wax to establish a level burning pool is dependent on the diameter of the vessel opening. For example, our 4oz clear glass tumbler is 2.5 inches wide. It will require you to burn it at least 2.5 hours or until it's reached a full melting pool the first time, but could take longer.
  • Wax has a memory so if you don't establish an even burning pool the first time, your candle could "tunnel" deeper and deeper with each burn.
  • Burning the candle correctly will allow your candle to last longer and will allow for optimal hot fragrance throw.
  • TROUBLESHOOTING:  If you burned any vessel at least 3 hours, or one hour per diameter inch, and it did not achieve a full melting pool, please let the candle cure and the next time you burn the candle, please allow enough time for the candle to burn to the edges. It should level out during the 2nd burn.

Recommended Wick Care

The simple practice of clipping your wick to 1/4 inch prior to burning the candle the 1st time, and every time after, has many benefits and will result in your candle burning longer and cleaner.

  • If the candle wick, "mushrooms" as it might do after burning 2+ hours, simply turn the candle over once it's cooled and pluck the mushroom head off before burning again and/or clip the wick to 1/4in. To reduce the "mushrooming" of your candle wick and to ensure the flame is burning at a proper height for the size of your candle, be sure to clip the wick to 1/4 inch before each burn.
  • Clipping the wick prior to burning also allows the wick to stay centered in the vessel v. folding over, to the side and/or touching the wax.
  • TROUBLESHOOTING: If your wick has excess smoke, soot on the glass, or mushrooms, extinguish the candle, wait to cool, and clip the wick.

Recommended Vessel Care

  • Place the vessels on a heat resistant surface.
  • Do not burn near anything that can catch on fire.
  • Keep candles away from children, pets, and anything creating a draft such as fans and air vents.
  • Do not leave the candle unattended.
  • Discontinue burning the candle when the wax depth is 1/2 inch from the bottom of the vessel. This will prevent the vessel from overheating and damaging the surface it's sitting on and worse, cracking or breaking from the extreme heat.

Recommended Storage Tips

  • If your candle has a lid, place the lid over the candle between burns to preserve the fragrance and intercept dust and debris in the air.
  • If you candle does not have a lid, the dust cover will assist in preserving the fragrance and catching dust. Wait for the candle to completely cool and cure before placing the dust cover on top.
  • Avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat. Soy wax is sensitive to intense light and heat and the wax can become discolored and your total burn time can be compromised.
